Joseph Bond, Sr. was born and raised in Brownsville, Tennessee. He was what you call a granddaddy’s boy. He was mostly raised by his grandparents, Johnny Venus and Fannie Mae Bond. His love for food and people is a generational journey of love.
Joseph grew up as a little boy working alongside his grandfather, who owned and operated the community grocery store, Bond’s Grocery Store. Joseph (Joe) learned from his grandfather, affectionately known as ‘papa,’ how to appreciate the “art” of good southern cooking. His grandfather headed the first Bond Family Reunion 43 years ago. Joe’s love for the art of cooking at the first reunion gave him the confidence to pursue a career in culinary arts. It’s that passion that has allowed Joe the type of success he’s seen in owning his restaurant for over twenty years.
Joe’s creativity for making tasty sauces and batter for the best fish and Bar-b-que is not by accident. When you taste Joe’s batter (on seafood) and sauce (on meats) you will understand his slogan, “You won’t rest until you’ve tried the best.”
